The things I learnt from completing this experiment is that different attires can affect a swimmer’s speed and it can in most instances be a situation between life & death. For example when I swam with the jeans & hoody jumper, I felt my arms weaken, clothes absorbed water and so I struggled to swim to the finish line. If this had been a real life situation I would have perhaps drowned. However when I swam with the swimsuit and then the shorts, it felt much easier to swim and did not struggle to complete the experiment. Furthermore I learnt that many hours of research & development is needed in developing high- quality swimming gear for swimmers, whether it is for competition or recreation and many swimming professional s rely on this attire (swimsuit) for success.
Before I started the experiment I thought the speed with a swimmer wearing shorts would be faster than the speed of a swimmer wearing a swimsuit. But after conducting my experiment and collecting results it was not the results that I expected. It turned out that the swimmers speed with shorts is slower than the swimmers speed with the swimsuit with a 6 second delay.
The investigation might be improved by having multiple numbers of swimmers (3 to 5 people). T his will give us a clear indication on strength, endurance and experience.
The limitation I had conducting my experiment was that I at the start wanted to carry out my experiment using the outdoor swimming pool area but due to the bad weather I had to carry out my experiment indoor.
My results have definitely been supported by research because it was an experiment that involved stress and work for Six (6) weeks. All the inquiries, writing letters, conducting the experiment, making phone calls and asking a lot of questions to make sure I was on the right track to get the experiment done proves that the results had supporting conclusions.
My experiment and results can relate to everyday life because as we are familiar with Ian Thorpe who is a famous professional swimmer. Ian Thorpe prefers swimming with swimsuits because it gives him better perfomance and great results such as” IAN Thorpe's world record in the 400m freestyle 2:08.68”.Sydney Morning Herald, ‘Thorpe's world records, November 22, 2006.
Finally my research is important because it can help the researchers of the swimming association come up with ideas and products that can increase the performance and speed of a swimmer .This will create swimmers like Ian thorpe and others achieve world records.
Conclusion: From the Results and the analysis it can be said that the attire has a direct effect on the swimmer because it can delay or increase the swimmers speed.
